In the summer of 2005, I began fieldwork to document the tamale culture of the Mississippi Delta for the Southern Foodways Alliance. The resulting project, The Mississippi Delta Hot Tamale Trail, was, at the time, a ground-breaking interactive online archive in celebration of a culinary anomaly.
