THE TAMALE TRAIL AT TEN

In the summer of 2005, I began fieldwork to document the tamale culture of the Mississippi Delta for the Southern Foodways Alliance. The resulting project, The Mississippi Delta Hot Tamale Trail, was, at the time, a ground-breaking interactive online archive in celebration of a culinary anomaly. Innumerable articles were written about the Trail. We won awards. And I made life-long friends.

This summer, I created a Tumblr site to celebrate the project's ten-year anniversary, share some of my favorite stories, and reflect on a decade spent talking tamales.
