CELEBRATING EGERTON & OKRA AT "TASTE OF THE SOUTH"

Digitally manipulated award images for SFA.
Back in September, the Southern Foodways Alliance commissioned me to design two award images to be unveiled at their annual Southern Foodways Symposium. Giclée prints of the images featured above were given to the recipients of this year's John Egerton Prize and Ruth Fertel Keeper of the Flame award and will be given to future award recipents for what I hope will be years to come.
To create these images, I began in the medium I know best: paint. I completed two acrylic paintngs on wood, which are featured below. I then scanned them and manipulated them digitally to add the relevant text that appears at the bottom of each one.

My original paintings on wood.
I donated my original paintings to the Southern Foodways Alliance to be auctioned off this weekend as part of "Taste of the South," their annual fundraising event at Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tennessee. I look forward to finding out where these little gems land after their trip from my Houston studio to an auction table in Tennessee.
