2015 APPALACHIAN FOOD SUMMIT ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Last weekend, I was honored to serve as the artist in residence for the 2015 Appalachian Food Summit held in Abingdon, Virginia. I created a series of portraits specifically for the Summit that were inspired by the stories of community members featured in the Saltville Centennial Cookbook, published in 1996 by the Museum of the Middle Appalachians. Read my artist's statement for more background on this body of work.

"When company came, Elizabeth would run and hide and get a new apron." Inspired by the Saltville Centennial Cookbook | Saltville, VA Elizabeth Branham: Fried Chicken, p. 11. Acrylic on wood panel, 24 in. x 24 in., 2015.

The paintings are on view at The Harvest Table Restaurant in Meadowview, Virginia, where a wonderful reception and supper were held on the Friday night of the Summit. The exhibit will be display there through October 24, and all of the paintings are available for purchase through the restaurant. Call (276) 944-5142 for more information.

Limited-edition archival prints of a handful of the paintings from this series are available in my online shop.

Many thanks to all of the organizers of the 2015 Appalachian Food Summit for inviting me to be part of such a wonderful event!
